What European legislation says
Since 1 September 2021, Regulation (EU) 2019/2020 has been in force, setting new standards for the ecodesign of light sources, in line with Directive 2009/125/EC. This regulation repealed the previous regulatory references and introduced very precise parameters that every light source must meet in order to be sold within the European Union.
What does it all mean?
In practice, the incandescent bulbs traditionally used in traffic lights no longer comply with the new rules. This not only limits the possibility of purchasing them, but also makes replacing and maintaining them over time more complex.
